Menu!
Hello everyone!
Chris and I picked out the menu and wanted to let you know what's on it.
Before the ceremony, there will be a lemonade stand with two kinds of lemonade... I think one of them will be rosemary lavender... oooooh, fancy!
Then we are having a mezze spread for cocktails and appetizers. Be sure to try the mergez sausage and apricot things... tasty stuff. For dinner, there will be roasted tenderloin, baked cod and grilled portabella caps. There will also be fantastic sides and fresh bread.
Our bar is full. We have Smithwicks, Powers Irish Whiskey, and some other as yet to be determined microbrew. Plus all kinds of sodas, juices, and that awesome lemonade.
Wait, wait, there's one more thing: there's going to be a sundae bar with the wedding cup cakes for desert! I'm really excited about that.

T Minus Three Weeks
Hello! Well, things are getting exciting around here. Chris and I are getting the last touches for what we're wearing and I've heard from almost everyone who is coming. I think this is going to be a great wedding.
I'm going to wear opalescent glass earrings! Here' s a close up picture of opalescent spun glass:

Hotels

We're not sure how many folks are looking for hotels when they come to DC for the wedding. We have not reserved rooms but want to let you know what hotels are in the area. The closest hotels are the Washington Marriott Wardman Park and the Omni Shoreham Hotel. They are steps from the Woodley Park Metro Station and about 7 blocks from the wedding venue. They have rooms starting at $160/night but priceline.com might find a better deal. Also, we've heard great things about the Dupont Circle Hilton and Georgetown Holiday Inn. They are a little further from the venue, but still pretty close. Please note that the Georgetown Holiday Inn is not metro accessable. There are also guest houses in the 20008 area and even some b & b's. Send us an email if you'd like any more information about the area: shannonfburns (at symbol) yahoo (dot) com.

Rings

The rings have arrived and Chris and I are really happy with them. They are aircraft grade titanium with bands of Mokume-gane (木目金) which is a mixed-metal laminate with distinctive layered patterns. Literally translating as "wood eye metal", the name was borrowed from one type of pattern created in the forging of swords and other edged weapons (thanks wikipedia). Mine has a band of palladium, silver and green gold and Chris's has a band of red, white and yellow gold. Titanium feels very warm to wear and somehow feels soft.

Licensed to Wed
Chris and I went down to the DC Marriage Bureau (aka the most romantic place in the district) and registered to get married. This is the sign that greeted us on the fourth floor:

The marriage office is the last office, past the domestic violence court, past the child abuse court, past the child support division.

Kids
Hi. Folks are asking if kids can come to the wedding. Sure, says Chris and I. The caterers have a sitting service. We'll rent out a classroom at the school and order pizza for the kiddos--we're only expecting five or six kids. We're planning on a short ceremony, so there shouldn't be too much time for fidgetings. Let us know if you'd rather have the kids seated for dinner--just so we can get a correct head count. More updates to come.

Invitations and Registry
Hello! Thank you for all the sweet congratulations and cheers.
Things are coming together quickly. We've e-mailed out save the dates and are getting our invitations together.
We've also set up a registry at Amazon.com. As many of you know, we are moving overseas this summer. As a result, we don't need a lot of new breakable and/or electric things. Our main desire is for our guests to come and celebrate with us in June.

Date and Venue News
Chris and I found a venue and a date. We will get married in the evening on June 13, 2009 at:
Tregaron
3100 Macomb Street NW
Washington DC 20008-3324
Tregaron is a gated, hilltop estate in Cleveland Park (just north of the National Zoo). The mansion and grounds are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Bonus: it sounds like an awesome transformer's name. "At last, Tregaron will defeat the decepticons!"
We welcome our guests to stay in Washington, DC for the weekend. There will be festivities and celebrations all weekend long. More details coming soon.
